We have all experienced those moments when a WeChat call arrives at a time that isn't quite right for a conversation. Perhaps you are in the middle of reading a long article or finishing a quick message. Traditionally, the choice was limited to either accepting the call or declining it outright.

While declining is efficient, it often feels a bit cold, as the caller is immediately notified that you actively chose to hang up. To bridge this gap in social etiquette, WeChat’s 8.0.65 update introduces a much-needed "Ignore" button that prioritizes your peace of mind but still taking care of the caller’s feelings.

When a voice or video call arrives while you are using the app, tapping the new "Ignore" option immediately silences the ringtone and shrinks the interface into a small, unobtrusive mini-window. This window is designed to be flexible, allowing you to swipe it into any corner of your screen so you can continue browsing or messaging without distraction. Essentially, it puts the call in a "waiting room" while you carry on with your digital life.

The genius of this feature lies in its subtlety. From the caller’s side, nothing appears out of the ordinary; the phone simply continues to ring as if you are away from your device. After more than a minute, the call ends automatically, and the caller is greeted with a standard message stating the call wasn't answered, as there is no way of knowing whether you were busy or simply didn't see the notification.

A voice call also works the same way.

It is helpful to note that this "Ignore" option is only available when you are actively working within the WeChat interface. If you have already closed the app, the standard system call screen will appear instead. By offering this more polite way to handle incoming requests, WeChat is helping users manage their social interactions with greater ease and courtesy.
